Chapter Five

Rafe could not believe how this day was going. First, his sit down with Erin had gone to hell and she’d walked out on him thinking he’d kicked her out. At least she had called her mate, but had she stayed with him? No. The little free spirited brat had left him to go off on her own. So typical of Erin. Why had he encouraged her to be so independent as she grew up?

He sighed as he thought over the previous night. It had all gone so well. The good mayor hadn’t been able to resist the Alpha Heat pheromones. She’d been more than happy to try some powder. Apparently she’d always been curious but never brave enough to try any. The trio Amos had suggested he use came in and started getting busy with each other while he’d assisted her with her first try of drugs. He’d kept it light, not wanting her to OD, or get too wasted to do anything more. After barely a taste, her gaze had zeroed in on the two men and the woman, and all the naked flesh on display. He’d told her to go to them if she wanted, to touch all she liked. She’d been so nervous and buttoned up to start with, but the other three were well versed in seduction and before long they had Miss Raine naked and fully participating in all sorts of wonderful things Rafe now had on high definition video.

Rafe scrubbed his palms over his face. Never had he considered any of this would come back on Erin. Only a supernatural would be able to track scent, and after a shower and change of clothes, the mayor wouldn’t have smelled of the pheromones at all. Rafe was a little surprised anyone saw her before that point. She would have stunk of sex and drugs, the pheromones would have been a bare trace under all the other scents.

Stupid bloody shifters. They were ruining his life.

Audrey had told him she’d try to call the two security guards, but Rafe knew they wouldn’t answer. If they thought she’d been compromised, they wouldn’t trust the connection. And Rafe was fairly certain they would know if they did use their phones, he could trace them. So he didn’t even bother trying to go that route. Instead, he intended to use the town’s traffic cameras to trace their vehicle. He’d had someone hack into the system years ago for another purpose and he’d made sure his little back door into the system stayed open ever since.

It only took a couple of minutes to have the program up and running. He found the camera that recorded out of the front of Nathan’s restaurant and rewound it until he saw Erin come out the front door. She was looking straight ahead but clearly deep in thought.

Changing cameras took some time, but he found the one he needed when Erin moved out of the field of vision of the current one. He tensed when a big bastard shoved her down a side alley.
